Was the woman hiding from someone who meant her harm, or is there someone out there who wants Lola dead? This follow-up to Ramirez's debut novel, Living the Vida Lola, is a red-hot, fun-filled mystery. In times where utopia is almost an obscene swearword we need to put it back into perspective. What else are we supposed to imagine other than the utopian? Is there really no alternative to ecological crisis, to femicide, poverty and inequality? Of course there is, because all it needs is our imagination. If we imagine something different, this is the alternative, this is utopian. In a feminist academic context there has been utopian imagination.

It was during the third wave of feminism that this model was questioned in feminist utopian fiction and the genre critical utopia emerged. These days, the genre of the critical utopia has grown quiet. Inequality between the sexes and the oppression of women is no longer seen as the reason for the world going wrong. It is claimed that we have reached the period of post-feminism. What should we imagine if there is no desirable alternative or no alternative at all?

Fortunately, few but strong female writers refute those assumptions. Sonya, the artist, is blind to everything but beauty. So lovely I remember this book to be to me, back in my 14 years of age when I read it. I remember learning so much about Spain and Spanish and its civil war by simultanesously enjoying the story told.

I remember I would keep in mind the phrase "Hasta la vista Gori im, Hasta la vista Anita ime" afterwards and would always repeat it whenever civil wars would be spoken about. Nov 16, Lena Kadriu rated it it was amazing. It was one of those books that got you excited from time to time, but was hard to keep reading sometimes as well.

If we take into consideration the fact that it's a true story, the war in Spain, it is obvious that it might get boring in some parts where it constantly talks about what is happening and explaining the story in details, but history has its own sweet and exciting moments too. I wouldn't reread the whole book again, but I would love to go back to some parts. Jul 27, Leart Ibrahimi rated it it was amazing. Aug 25, Fjo rated it it was amazing. Lovely book!
